Tri Cities Regional Women's Business Summit

SURVEY OF WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS, ENTREPRENEURIAL NON-BUSINESS OWNERS
& PROFESSIONAL WOMEN

As part of the Women's Business Center (WBC) grant application process, KOSBE conducted an online survey of the region's women small business owners and entrepreneurial women non-business owners to gain a clear understanding of the constraints and needs of women business owners and female entrepreneurs in Northeast Tennessee. Responses from women indicate a strong need for a Women's Business Center in the Tri-Cities Tennessee/Virginia Region.

A WBC would not only increase the count of women-owned businesses in Tennessee, but also the opportunities for women business owners and women entrepreneurs –especially in the eight-county region including Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington (combined population 475,412).

TRI CITIES REGIONAL WOMEN'S BUSINESS SUMMIT

The Tennessee Economic Council on Women (TECW) assesses Tennessee women’s economic status. It develops and advocates solutions to address women’s needs to help women achieve economic autonomy. In setting its priorities, the Council selects issues that are timely and likely to result in positive changes for women.

In 2008, Jennifer Rawls, Executive Director of thee Tennessee Economic Council on Women, Nashville, Tenn., allotted KOSBE a grant of $4,000 to organize a regional women's business event at Northeast State Technical Community College in Blountville.
