Pinnacle Ranch will have a demonstration and open house/barn on Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 4 until 6 pm. The public, medical professionals, social service and court personnel, parents of troubled youth or autism spectrum disorder children, veterans, abuse victims, and other interested people are invited to the demonstration and open house/barn. For directions please call 423.754.4242 or e-mail info@pinnacleranch.net and on the web at www.pinnacleranch.net. Â
Pinnacle Ranch is the only facility in Northeast Tennessee that helps people help themselves through equine assisted psychotherapy and growth and learning. Unlike other equine assisted activities that involve riding and focus on physical and developmental disabilities (e.g. therapeutic riding, hippotherapy), the specially designed activities at Pinnacle Ranch are 100% on the ground and focus on metaphoric and experiential learning. In addition, Pinnacle Ranch utilizes a treatment team consisting of a mental health professional, a certified equine specialist, and the horses to address treatment goals. This unique facility has a professional staff dedicated to providing mental health services, opportunities for personal growth, and organizational team-building workshops. Â
Horses offer opportunities for experiential emotional growth and learning. As herd animals, horses are highly sensitive to the emotions of those around them and mirror those emotions through non-verbal communication (e.g. pinned ears, swishing tails). Pinnacle Ranch’s activities require the client or group to apply certain life and social skills to tasks involving the horses. Â
Pinnacle Ranch’s equine specialists are certified by the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), which provides education, standards, innovation, and support to professionals providing services in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning around the world. The mental health professionals are certified by their respective governing organization. Â
